Collins Family Vacation 2008 Tecolutla Hotels (so far)

Tecolutla, Veracruz MX is the closest beach to Mexico City. It is a tiny town with a bit of a city feel to it as a result of this proximity. It tends to fill up Big Time on the weekends, Easter, and during high summer. But when we travel there, usually in May or June, the town empties out Sunday afternoons and then it’s just The Gringo Family of Oklahoma, EU, & Tecolutla, all week long alone together. We’ve always relied on the Hotel Tecolutla as a home-away-from-home and have recently come to enjoy the Real del Mar as much. These are just a couple of the town’s bigger, finer hotels. Tecolutla is filled with smaller, simpler, less costly habitaciones. We’d like to stay a night in every single one of them - and hope to.
Although in the interests of a disclaimer I should state to strangers that I’ve made these films to Show-Off to family and friends, so they’ll admire and envy us. And so it’s possible that I may have inadvertently made these hotels appear drastically nicer on film and in pictures than, in fact, is actually the case.

This is the first time my family and kids will be visiting Colorado this spring or summer. What are some good places to visit, such as amusement parks, zoos, 4-wheeling and sight seeing? Also we are looking for good deals on cabins or lodges. Will stay in a hotel if necessary. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

Mesa Verde in the South-West corner is VERY educational with ancient cliff side dwellings (but with sharp curves and steep grades, driving up there is not for the faint of heart): Mesa Verde:

Central City for a taste of the old west and the “face on the bar room floor”. (There’s a “short cut” south of Central City to Idaho Falls that the locals refer to as the “Oh-My-God Road” which used to be only for 4X4’s). See: http://www.colorado.com/CentralCity.aspx
For skiing, Aspen is more for adults (Vail & Breckenridge is better for kids).

In the summer, it can get REALLY hot in Colorado, which makes hiking more difficult, but going up into the mountains is cooler. Spring is the very best time to hike in Colorado. (If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes).
If you really like geology and to hike among red rocks, you might choose to pop over to Utah to see the Arches, Zion and Canyonlands parks (where it can get equally hot). Check these places out in Google Images. (The Motel 6 at Arches is actually nice).
If you really like exploring ancient civilizations (and the road up to Mesa Verde scares you), you might want to pop down into New Mexico to check out Bandelier park: http://www.bandelier.national-park.com/
Bring along some anti-nausea medicine as some of those twisting mountain roads can make kids car sick. And some of the high altitude destinations might not be good for all members of the family. Also, if going by car, carry extra water, and you might want to get you car tuned for high altitude driving, or your car might feel “gutless” while driving through low oxygen places like the Eisenhower Tunnel. Make sure you gear down in the steep grades, or you won’t have any brakes left.
